How to Smoke Cigars Like a Pro

  • Cut the Cigar- Before you can light the cigar to start smoking, you will need to cut it. To do this, we recommend investing in a proper cigar clipper—a tool designed specifically to cut off the round ends of cigars as smoothly as possible—as this tool will provide the most even cut. In addition, make sure to keep the cutter clean and keep the blades sharp.
  • Light the Cigar- The next step in your journey to smoke cigars is to learn to light them properly. The best tool for the job is a torch lighter, as this makes it easier to get a consistent, even burn without torching the cigar and messing up its flavors. Position the cigar above the flame, making sure that the flame doesn’t touch it directly, and slowly rotate the cigar to evenly ignite the outer layers of tobacco. You are trying to achieve a uniform orange glow. This will take a few tries to get right, but stick with it and you will master the technique in no time.
  • Smoke the Cigar- Now it’s time to actually smoke your cigar. Do not inhale, but instead let the smoke fill your mouth, then exhale. Do this a few times until the cigar produces a thick, white smoke, then slow down your puffs and enjoy the fragrance. Continue to puff every minute or so to keep the cigar burning, but this experience is more of a marathon than a sprint, so you shouldn’t be puffing constantly.
