Here at Top Leaf Cigar Lounge, we want to encourage more people to experience the pleasures of smoking great cigars. In our experience, however, many people who are interested in giving cigars a try hesitate to do so because they don’t know how to smoke one properly, and they worry about looking foolish. If you are one of those people, worry no longer, as our team has put together this article to explain everything you need to know about how to smoke cigars.
- Choose your location. The first step for successfully smoking your first cigar is to choose the right location. We recommend a cigar lounge or some other calm place where you can relax and focus on the experience.
- Choose the right cigar. Once you know where you’ll be smoking cigars for the first time, the next step is to choose the right cigars to smoke. For your first cigar, we recommend choosing something smooth and tasty but not overwhelming–you’ll have plenty of time to try the darker and more intense options later. We love introducing people to the world of cigars and are happy to help you select the best ones to try.
- Cut your cigar. The next step you’ll need to take before you can smoke cigars is to learn to cut them properly. All cigars have a cap that holds the tobacco leaves together, and premium cigars have two or even three caps. You’ll want to cut the cigar with a very sharp blade, removing only the first cap and no more–cut too far, and you’ll likely end up with bits of tobacco in your mouth.
- Toast the cigar. The last step that we’ll cover here is how to properly light your cigar. Light your lighter and hold the cigar at an angle, near the flame without actually touching it. The heat from the flame is enough to start producing smoke all on its own. Rotate the cigar until it is evenly lit up–if you’re having trouble, you can always ask one of our experts to show you how. Once it’s lit, enjoy your first chance to smoke cigars.
